Mrs. Melissa Shelly lived in Davenport, a hamlet in central New York State.

In January of 1914, Mrs. Shelly received a New Year postcard from Nettie.

Nettie lived elsewhere in New York State -the postmark is illegible.

The face of the postcard is illustrated by John Winsch, celebrated postcard artist.

Amid violet blossoms an opened scroll bears the message, “A Glad New Year”.

The design was copyrighted in 1913.

On the reverse, Nettie sends “Best Wishes for a Happy New Year” and reports that “we are usually well”.

Nettie tells her friend, “Would like to see you”.

The weather must have been snowy, as Nettie adds, “fine sleighing here, had a dandy ride today”.

One hopes that Mrs. Shelly was pleased to hear from her friend and that Nettie enjoyed many fine adventures in the winter of 1914.
