Thanksgiving Greetings from the “Eyesight Specialist”

Thanksgiving Greetings from the “Eyesight Specialist” – circa 1910

This advertising card, printed circa 1915, was not mailed.

Promoting “Rinkenbach’s Eyesight Specialists” of Harrisburg, the postcards were distributed within other mailings, given away at stores or offices, or inserted in newspapers.

(I have a series of postcard photographs of the San Francisco Earthquake that were inserted into Sunday newspapers in 1906).

It is interesting to note that advertising gimmicks have changed very little in the past century; the reverse of the postcard contains a test of visual acuity to help you determine your need to visit the “Eye Specialists”.

Rickenbach’s performed tests of vision and of eye muscles, and also made and repaired eyeglasses.

The face of the postcard contains two hand-colored images, a large cornucopia, the horn of which surrounds an image of a feast, and a large, sullen-looking Tom Turkey.
