The Capilano Suspension Bridge -Pedestrian Thrills of 1935

In June of 1935, L.W. Burr (?) was traveling through Vancouver, British Columbia.

One morning, L. W. visited the park where a suspension bridge had been erected for pedestrian enjoyment in 1889.

L. W. mailed to Mrs. Bryant Smith in Milwaukee a postcard which featured a nicely-colored illustration of the Capilano Bridge. The illustration resembles a painting.

The postcard was printed by the Novelty Manufacturing and Art Co. Ltd of Montreal.

Unfortunately, the visit to the bridge was not entirely satisfactory.

The postcard message includes the report, “I was …teetering across it this a.m. and not enjoying the sensation one bit.’

Since 1935, the bridge has been rebuilt, and new suspended walkways have been added through old growth Douglas Firs.

For sensation-seekers, plan now for a post-pandemic trip to Vancouver!
