The Valentines of Emily Wolf

Around 1915 (based on the design of the postcard), Emily Wolf lived at 649 Vine Street in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Several friends presented valentines to her on St. Valentine’s Day.

None of the greetings were mailed, so we assume she exchanged them with neighbors, or with classmates at school.

Emily seems to have saved them throughout her life.

Like the memorabilia of many lives, the valentines were sold with miscellaneous old paper at an antique flea market.

(This is only a sample of the Valentines that bore the name of Miss Emily.)

That they were preserved suggests that they brought happiness to Miss Emily about a century ago.
