“Thy Kingdom Come” – circa 1910

This phrase from “the Lord’s Prayer” reflects the longing and the aching of many people who hope to see the world set aright.

I am not sure how the plea is related to this illustration, a splendid example of postcard art.

Printed in Germany, the postcard was not mailed- it may have been part of a collection illustrating each phrase of the prayer.

(I am trying to re-collect such a sequence.)

Was she praying for deliverance from illness, want, or some injustice?

Most of us have moments in which we glimpse how the waste, cruelty, harshness, and hazards of this life could be redeemed and made good.

Let “Thy Kingdom Come”, indeed.
