Will Grandma Come for Dinner?  1910

On July 25, 1910, Mabel sent a postcard to her mother, Mrs. Henry Grider, of Columbia, PA.

(The borough of Columbia, located on the Susquehanna River, developed as a transportation center around the first canals and railroads in Pennsylvania.  It was also a center of activity on the Underground Railroad.)

The postcard, featuring a nicely-colored decoration of a sentimental verse, was mailed from Mount Joy, PA.

Mount Joy is a borough about 13 miles north of Columbia.

Printed in Germany, the postcard was published by B.B. of London and New York.

The message is concerned entirely with communication (with grandpa) about the possibility of Grandma coming for dinner.

At a time when few homes had telephones, postcards were a rapid and reliable method of making family plans.

One hopes that the plans were confirmed, and that grandpa and grandma enjoyed a visit with their children and grandchildren.
