“Words Better Left Unsaid” – Postcard Motto (1906)

Some good advice does not go out of fashion.

The M. T. Sheahan Company of Boston specialized in the publication of postcard mottos.

The company slogan, “Sheahan’s Good Mottos make the world brighter” is printed on the reverse of their products.

This postcard was copyrighted in 1906.

The bright red face, with letters in white, contains advice as timely as it was when it was printed.

“Words better left unsaid

Come back to grieve us

When we think them dead”

It isn’t just angry, hate-filled, demeaning comments found in old internet posts that can came back to haunt us, but the careless and hasty judgements that we utter because we think that others “need to know”.

A good reminder for this rainy Sunday in Spring.
