Miss Grace Conklin lived in Nyack, a village on the Hudson River about 15 miles north of New York City.
Settled by Dutch farmers about 1675, Nyack was a commercial and transportation center at the turn of the 20th century.
At that time, Nyack had several boat-building industries.

In March of 1906, Grace received a postcard from Harry.
Harry mailed the greeting from Sparkill, a hamlet just west of the Hudson River and about 5 miles south of Nyack.

The face of the postcard is a stylized image of two lovers embracing.
The pair stands on a path, beside trees and before gently rolling hills.
The ground at their feet is covered with small flowers.
The embossed design, well-colored and gilded, was printed in Europe.
Because the reverse of the postcard could only be used for the address, Harry has inscribed a brief message on the face.
Harry reports, “Been home sick and could not write before”.
Grace is asked to respond and to “address to Sparkill.”
The short sentences do not tell us very much about the relationship of Harry and Grace.
One hoes that Harry recovered from his illness, that Grace sent a message to him in Sparkill, and that the two maintained a friendship and correspondence for many years.
