Miss Margaret Mink lived in Wilmington – the busy port, and a cultural and commercial center in northern Delaware.
Wilmington is the largest city in the State.

In July of 1939, Margaret received a comic postcard related to family planning.
The postcard was sent by a friend, Edna, who was hosting a summer party in the coastal resort of Wildwood, N.J.
Wildwood, located in the southern tip of New Jersey, was a popular resort from the late 19th century – and still has some of the highest-rated beaches on the Atlantic Coast.

The face of the postcard is a cartoon of a burly policeman gesturing at an automobile that seems to be ignoring a stoplight.
The small sedan is driven by a man whose wife sits beside him.
Crowded around the couple, and crammed into the back, are six children of various ages.
All the children are nearly-attired and smiling.
The printed words of the policeman provide the humor:
“Say, Mister! Don’t you know when to stop!”
The man and his wife have embarrassed expressions, but the happy children seem oblivious to the comment.
The postcard is one of the “Tichnor Quality Views” published by Tichnor Brothers, Inc. of Boston.
This image is from the series of “Auto Comics”.

On the reverse Edna reports that “we’re having a swell time”.
Edna will be “waiting for you on Friday”.
In case she has forgotten, Edna shares her address on Magnolia Avenue.
Margaret is asked to “drop us a line to let us know when you’re coming”.
One hopes that Margaret made the trip (by train or ferry), that she enjoyed the party, and that she and Edna remained friends and correspondents for many years.
