Miss Goldie Mower lived in Saugerties, a town on the west bank of the Hudson River in Ulster County of south-central New York.
This area had been the site of an early mill on Sawyers Kill (1650), but was not permanently settled until German, Dutch, and English immigrants arrived in the early years of the 18th century.
Saugerties is about110 miles north of New York City.

In January of 1908, Goldie acquired a well-made art postcard portraying a sailing vessel in a bay or harbor.
The postcard lacks any inscription of an artist or a publisher although the quality is very good.
The postcard was not mailed, although it bears the name and address of Goldie.
An inscription on the reverse notes:
“I got this card to (sic) Myer Bros. Saugerties”
It is my assumption that Goldie was given or picked up the postcard as part of a promotion by Myers Bros. – or that Goldie purchased the postcard herself to add to a postcard collection.
After a long internet search, I confirmed that Myer Bros. was a pharmacy in Saugerties.
It seems that Goldie enjoyed this example of postcard art as it was preserved in good condition throughout her life.
