For this calm Sunday evening, a lovely scene of a peaceful river.
The postcard was not mailed, so there is no personal story attached to it.
Here, we see a grassy bank that gently slopes toward the water.
A dirt path leads to a small wooden dock.
One imagines that canoes or rowboats might be launched from the dock.
Perhaps swimmers also leapt from the boards.
A printed title identifies this as a “Scene on the Tomoka River, near Daytona, Fla”.

The Tomoka River is a north-flowing river that rises in the forests of Volusia County of east-central Florida.

The river passes through the cities of Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach before emptying into the Halifax River.
As a coastal river, the water is wide and relatively shallow in places.
The river is brackish, and supports some species of salt-water and of fresh-water fish.
Near the mouth, the Tomoka River passes through an aquatic preserve and a State Park.

The estuary is a Manatee Preserve.

Although the postcard title identifies “Daytona, Fl.”, the river view does not suggest the resort city of Daytona Beach on the Atlantic Coast.
The throngs of contemporary beach visitors and the popular sporting events and races of the latter 20th century seem far away from this quiet picture.

The printing was done in Germany.
