An Order for Rivets – Rock Falls. Illinois (1909)

In the early 2oth century, an enormous amount of business was conducted by postcards.

Business correspondence is not a favorite category for postcard collectors, but it is not possible to comprehend the vital importance of postcard communication without paying some attention to commercial postcards.

In September of 1909, a representative of Joel Turney & Company sent an order to the Russell, Birdsall, & Ward Bolt and Nut Company.

Joel Turney and Co. was located in Fairfield, a charming agricultural town in the hills of southeastern Iowa.

The Russell, Birdsall, & Ward Bolt and Nut Company was located in Rock Falls, Illinois.

Rock Falls is a city on the Rock River in northwest Illinois.

Fairfield is about 170 miles southwest of Rock Falls.

The original order cannot be seen, but here is the postcard acknowledgement from the Bot and Nut Company.

Apparently, the company in Iowa was in need of rivets.

One hopes that the order was processed and shipped expeditiously and that the Joel Turney Company was pleased with the product.
