Christmas Wrens – West Farmington, Ohio (1908)

Miss Clara Jamison lived in West Farmington, a village in Trumbull County of northeast Ohio.

In December of 1908, Clara received a Christmas postcard from Carrie Jamison.

One expects that Clara and Carrie are related, perhaps sisters, but there is no indication of relationship in the written message.

Carrie mailed the postcard from Wellsburg, a city in the northern peninsula of West Virginia (that extends between Ohio and Pennsylvania).

West Farmington is about 100 miles north of Wellsburg.

The face of the postcard bears an embossed drawing of a rural scene in winter.

The scene is surrounded by a frame which is adorned with “forget-me-nots”.

Two wrens complete this bit of original postcard art.

The postcard was published by the International Art Publishing Company of New York and Berlin.

The postcard was printed in Germany.

On the reverse, Carrie sends news that she (and her family) are “going to spend Christmas at home”.

Carrie adds, “we all wish you a Merry Christmas”.

We cannot know if this news was a disappointment to Clara; it may be that she was counting on hosting Carrie and her family in West Farmington.

One hopes that Clara and Carrie and all the members of their families enjoyed a splendid Christmas.
