Cousin Galen Greets Miss Warner – February, 1908

In 1908, Miss Emma Warner lived in Gap, PA.

Gap, a small community, is named for a break in the Mine Ridge at the eastern boundary of Lancaster County.

William Penn visited the area when he was Proprietor of the new colony of Pennsylvania.

A copper mine enriched the area in early years, but the laying of a railroad line through the gap ensured the survival of the town.

Today, if you ride the train between Philadelphia and Lancaster, you may still admire the picturesque group of buildings that you see from your window as you pass through Gap.

It may have been Emma’s birthday that prompted Cousin Galen to send “Best Wishes”.

The postcard was mailed from Gap, which suggests that Galen lived close to his cousin.

The deeply embossed design of strawberries is lightly colored.

There is some damage to the edge of the card which I did not repair digitally.

The postcard is well-made, and weighty.

One hopes that Emma and her cousin, Galen, enjoyed the winter of 1908.
