Escape Prohibition!  – Niagara Falls, Ontario (1930)

Jerome and Florence (with a third person whose name I cannot read – perhaps a child) were visiting Niagara Falls.

From the Canadian side of the Falls, the travelers posted a comic postcard to Mr. Levi Yerger in Lititz, PA.

The postcard is illustrated by a comic drawing of two untidy folks quaffing large mugs of beer.

The heading explains the scene, “Come to Canada and Dip in the Foam.”

The experiment in Prohibition of alcohol was still in progress in the United Stars; it would not be repealed until December of 1933.

I don’t know if Jerome and Florence were fond of beer, or if Mr. Yerger missed his brews.

It may be that the postcard was amusing to them because the idea of taking a vacation in order to obtain a drink was absurdly humorous.

In any event, one hopes that Levi enjoyed the comic postcard and that the travelers returned safely to their home.
