Lewis Mansfield was born in the early years of the 20th century and lived near Fayette City, PA.
Fayette City, at that time, was a bustling borough of 2,000 people in Fayette County.
Sadly, this southwest corner of the Keystone Stare has steadily lost population and the borough now has only a quarter of that number of citizens.
When Lewis was two years old, he received his first pair of overalls.
To commemorate this milestone, a photographic portrait was made at the studio of H. S. Farquhar in Fayette City.
Some intelligent and forward-thinking soul added an inscription to the photograph so that we can be charmed by it more than a century later.
