Over the past few years, I have found at various antique stands several cards illustrating phrases of the “Lord’s Prayer”.
Convinced that I could assemble illustrations of the entire prayer, I began collecting the postcards.
(I do not yet have a complete set).
This postcard was mailed from Lancaster, PA on March 2, 1908.
Addressed to Miss Nettie Kreider of Strasburg RFD #2, the postcard lacks a clear indication of the sender.
The initials “M.I.E. “(?) appear on the reverse.
Nettie is asked to send a handkerchief to Sis for her birthday on March 22.
The custom of sending handkerchiefs, the “handkerchief surprise”, must be more common than I assumed – this is the third postcard message related to these events that I have found.
The face of the postcard bears an appropriate message for periods of uncertainty or fear; a plea for the sustenance we need one day at a time.
