Lydia Receives a Late Christmas Card – Talmage, PA (1907)

I was happy to find a Christmas postcard mailed, belatedly, on December 26.

“A Friend” mailed a Christmas postcard to Lynda Zook on December 26, 1907.

Lydia lived in Talmage, an unincorporated, rural community northeast of Lancaster, PA.

The postcard was received on the same day it was mailed.

I cannot read the originating postmark; it may be “Talmage”, also.

The face of the postcard is an original illustration of a ribbon from which bells are suspended.

The ends of the ribbon are festooned with sprigs of holly.

I believe the numbers inscribed in pencil on the reverse are not a date, but a postcard club identification.

One occasionally finds a series of numbers beside the signatures on postcards of the early 20th century’

The numerical signatures are commonly on cards that are exchanged between members of postcard clubs.

(Sometimes the number identification is paired with brief remarks such as, “I cannot find another Church/Library/Post Office”, etc.)

One hopes that Lydia and her correspondent enjoyed the Christmas season of the last century.
