Midget and Her Father – California (1912)

Some months ago, we saw a postcard photograph of a little girl and her parents; the family was seated on a hill overlooking a rustic valley.

The postcard was not mailed, but had the address of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Nelson in Los Angeles, California.

The postcard was signed by the child’s mother, Flora, identified as the sister of Mrs. Nelson.

I have several postcards sent to the Nelsons’ address in Los Angeles.

From other postcards mailed by Flora, we know that the winsome girl was known to her family as, “Midget”.

(The reverse of this postcard indicates that the postcard was the gift of Midget.)

Unfortunately, I have not yet found a genealogical data base listing that would enable me to identify “Midget”.

This photograph seems to have been taken at the same time as the earlier one -it is the same location, with the same debris scattered on the grass.

I did not post this shot earlier, as I was saving it for Father’s Day.

Alas, I did not post it on that day.

Here, Midget sits comfortably on her father’s arm.

Midget is wearing a light-colored dress and a bonnet; she is wearing tiny shoes.

Father is dressed in a suit and tie, and sports a fedora.

I assume that the photograph was taken by Flora.

This photograph was presented to other relatives, Aunt May and Uncle Philo.

We know that this was not a special occasion, as Flora noted that this was “just for fun”.

One hopes that the family had many impromptu excursions into the country, and that Midget grew up with constant love and safety.
