Miss Nellie Butler lived in Barnesville, a village in Belmont County of east-central Ohio.

In April of 1912, Nellie received a postcard from her friend, Eva.

Eva mailed a postcard greeting from Flushing, another village in Belmont County, Ohio.

Flushing is 18 miles northeast of Barnesville.

The face of the postcard is a drawing of a large orchid, against a background of woven wood – like that in a basket.

The printed legend expresses a sentiment about friends:

“In Glad Remembrance we call to mind our Friends”

On the reverse, Eva asks “how are you” and reports, “I am just fine”.

Eva urges Nellie to join her for an upcoming pie social, “I am going to look for you over the 27th to go to the pie social at Stillwater.”

Stillwater is an unincorporated community in Tuscarawas County, about 24 miles northwest of Flushing.

Eva expresses a hope that Nellie will enjoy “a good time at the B_____”; it is unclear what Eva’s abbreviation conceals.

One hopes that Nellie was able to meet Eva for the pie social and that the two remained friends and correspondents for many years.
