Rally Day in Penryn

Rally Day in Penryn – October 24, 1926

Ninety-two years ago, Sara Long received her invitation to Rally Day at the Penryn  Lutheran Church.

Penryn is an unincorporated community in Penn Township- on Newport Road about halfway between the Lititz Pike and the Manheim Pike.

Rally Days were celebrated each Fall in many Protestant churches, an organizational meeting and “open house” for the start of the Sunday School year.

In addition to forming the Sunday School classes and introducing teachers, books, and plans, many congregations also hosted social activities or congregational meals on that day.

Sara Long lived on a rural postal route outside Lititz; her postcard was mistakenly addressed to Rothsville.

The postmaster or postmistress, presumedly, added the correct address in pencil.

The “Penryn Lutheran” Church must be St.Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
