Royal & Frederick Will Visit on Saturday – Shortsville, NY (1912)

Mrs. John Kessler lived in Shortsville, a village in Ontario County of western New York.

Throughout the 19th century, Shortsville was the site of numerous mills – saw mills, then flour, paper, and wool mills.

In August of 1912, Mrs. Kessler received a postcard from her nephew, Royal.

Royal mailed the postcard from Honeoye Falls, another village and mill town in Monroe County, New York.

Shortsville is 19 miles east of Honeoye Falls.

The face of the postcard is a drawing of an ancient city, possibly in Turkey or the Middle East.

There is no title that might identify the scene.

Likewise, I cannot find any indication of the artist or the publisher.

On the reverse, Royal addresses Mrs. Kessler as “Aunt Josie”.

Royal asks, “will it be convenient for Frederick and I to come Saturday…”

If it suits Aunt Josie, Royal suggests “drop me a line at once so I will get it Friday morning”.

Royal adds a bit of news, “I was over to Uncle Burt’s yesterday”.

In closing, Royal writes, “Good-bye until I see you”.

One hopes that Aunt Josie was able to entertain visitors on Saturday, that Royal and Frederick made the journey, and that the relatives enjoyed a delightful reunion.
