The New Grandstand at the York Fairgrounds – York, PA (Postmark 1934)
Some time ago, I posted memorabilia related to the York Fair, one of the oldest and greatest fairs in the country.
Here is a hand-colored postcard showing the grandstand and the large crowd assembled at the York County fairgrounds about 1930.
The postcard was mailed in 1934, but the style of postcard was prevalent since the 1920’s and this postcard may have been printed a few years earlier.
NOTE: An alert reader noted that the grandstand was built in 1926; I think we can conclude that the postcard was printed in the late 1920’s.
The postcard was mailed from York on September 4, 1934, by Mr. Webster who was a Democratic Party Commissioner or Committee Member. (Not sure what the abbreviation, “Comm”, represents).
Addressed to May and Al Parfet of Harrisburg, the postcard encourages them to register by the deadline on September 6.
It is early in the summer to be thinking about the Fair, although I believe the event is no longer scheduled at the traditional time in August.
