The New State of Oklahoma – circa 1910

Oklahoma was admitted to the Union in November of 1907.

Sometime thereafter, this postcard was printed in celebration of that milestone.

Unfortunately, the card lacks any indication of printer or publisher.

Because postcard publishers were quick to respond to public interest of all kinds, I believe the postcard was not related to any government agency.

People were eager to learn basic information about the territory that had become a state.

Interestingly, Oklahoma statehood was announced by Presidential proclamation.

From a state website:

“On September 17, 1907 the people of the Indian and Oklahoma Territories voted favorably on statehood. The vote was certified and delivered to the President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt and on November 16, 1907, Roosevelt issued Presidential Proclamation 780 admitting Oklahoma as the forty-sixth state”.
