The Photograph of Raymond – York, PA (circa 1910)

I found this postcard photograph some time ago when I was collecting images from the Penn Park Studio of York, PA.

The Penn Park Studio once had a branch in Hanover, PA, but I have not been able to find where the Hanover branch was located nor the years of its operation.

This photograph was also interesting because the child is wearing a sailor suit, and I have noticed how often boys of the early 20th century were photographed while sporting nautical attire.

In this photograph, the  boy wears a dark, belted jacket with wide lapels bearing nautical stripes.

The dark shorts (or knickers) appear to match the jacket.

Unfortunately, we have no information about the boy beyond his name.

Some thoughtful soul inscribed the reverse with the name, “Raymond”.

The photograph was made in York circa 1910, so we assume that Raymond was growing up somewhere in York County, Pennsylvania.

One hopes that the youngster had a happy childhood in the first decades of the 20th century.
