The Purina Feed Man Cometh

In April of 1909, an enterprising feed salesman took advantage of the popularity of postcard photographs to enhance his business.

The salesman, a Mr. Mosher (?), attached his photograph to the drawing of a man riding a chicken. The chicken is wearing the checkerboard Purina pattern.

I have a score of vintage postcards in which small, personal photograph portraits have been attached, but had not seen advertising cards with this feature.

It appears to be the practice of the Purina sales force.

The reverse of the postcard features the head of a large red rooster.

Mailed from Gillette, in northern Pennsylvania, the postcard was addressed to a Mr. Shoemaker in Nichols (southern New York State).
