The Silver Anniversary – Gaylord, Minnesota (1911)

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Maass were celebrating 25 years of marriage.

In honor of the event, family members gathered at their home in Gaylord, Minnesota.

Gaylord, named for a railroad engineer, is a small city on Titlow Lake in south central Minnesota.  The town, about 65 miles from the Twin Cities, grew up along a trail to the Dakota Territory.

The happy couple sent photographs of the gathering to relatives and friends who could not be present.

Mr. John Fisher received one of the postcard photographs at his home in Winona, Minnesota.

Winona is in bluff country along the Mississippi River in southeast Minnesota.  It became a wealthy commercial city due to the lumber industry and the city’s connection to water and rail transportation.

John would have to travel 163 miles from Winona to reach Gaylord.

The Maass couple wrote on the face of the photograph, “Most all of these are our father’s cousins around Gaylord.”

It seems to have been a splendid anniversary party, and one hopes that the couple enjoyed many more years together.

NOTE

An internet search reveals persons with the surname Maass in Nebraska and the state of Washington.  Others are identified in Texas, New York, and Florida.

New York Immigration records show persons with the name of Maass from England and Germany.

I cannot find Albert Maass in Minnesota.
