Walter has a Birthday – Manheim, PA (circa 1910)

Walter Weidman lived in Manheim, the borough which produced famous glassware in Colonial Pennsylvania.

Sometime around 1910, Walter received a birthday postcard from his friend, Sadie K. Shue.

This is an extremely well-made card, embossed, with fanciful features that are colored and printed precisely (lace curtains!).

The postcard was printed in Germany.

Sadie may have presented the card to Walter in person; it was not mailed.

I did a quick search for Walter and found several persons by that name born in the late 19th century.  The surname was common in Lancaster County and in Berks County.

Because I have a middle initial for her, I found a listing for Sadie K. Shue.

Sadie was born in 1890 and was still living in 1980.

She and Walter lived in Rapho Township, which includes the town of Manheim.

One hopes that the young Sadie and Walter enjoyed the season of Walter’s birthday early in the twentieth century.
