Mr. Edward McLaughlin lived in Rhinelander, a small city and the county seat of Oneida County in north-central Wisconsin.

I believe that Edward is a child, as he lives in the household of William D. McLaughlin and is addressed as “little cousin” on the reverse.
In December of 1913, Edward received a Christmas postcard from his cousin, Mary.
Mary mailed the postcard from Greenville, a small city in Montcalm County of central Michigan.
There is no direct route from Greenville MI to Rhinelander, WI – Lake Michigan lies between the cities.
Rhinelander is almost 400 miles northwest of Greenville.

The face of the postcard is a delightful drawing of a young woman pulling two children on a sled.
The young woman is wearing a form-fitting jacket and a billowing skirt.
Her auburn hair is partially covered by a red hat worn at a sporty tilt.
The children are well-dressed in winter coats – their hands have mittens and their feet are protected in boots.
The sled seems to glide effortlessly, as our heroine does not appear to be exerting herself.
The words, “Happy Christmas” are printed in an artful fashion at the bottom right of the face.
The spare design suggests that the postcard was made and published in the United States.
Cousin Mary has inscribed names for the children on the sled; she writes, “Edward and Clara”.
On the reverse, Mary addresses her “Little Cousin” by wishing him “a Merry Christmas & a happy New Year”.
Mary also sends, “Love to all”.
One hopes that Edward and his family, along with Cousin Mary, and all their kin, enjoyed a wonderful Christmas season.
Genealogical Note:
Edward C. McLaughlin was born in Rhinelander, Wisconsin in 1907.
(Edward was six when he received the Christmas postcard.)
His father was William Dennis McLaughlin (1867-1954) and his mother, Julia Adamski (1875-1955).
William and Julia were married in Rhinelander in 1904.
Edward’s older sister, Clara Marie McLaughlin was born in 1906.
In 1920, Edward was still living in the same county in Wisconsin, but in 1930, he was in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In 1940, Edward was living in Grand Rapids, but the US Census in that year is the last document that I can find for him.
He does not appear to have married or to have had children.
In the absence of records, we might assume that he died before 1950.
In June of 1933, Clara Marie married Clement Noah Groesbeck (1894-1979) in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Clara and Clement had a daughter Dorothy (1935-deceased) and a son, Donald (1937-deceased).
From 1940, until her death in 1994, Clara lived in Macomb County, Michigan.
The sender of the postcard is Mary Keena (1901-1976) – the daughter of John Keena (1861-1931) and Julia Ann McLaughlin (1863-1941).
Julia Ann, Mary’s mother, was the sister of William Dennis McLaughlin, the father of Edward and Clara.
