Very specific instructions, for measuring Lizzie’s crown and for counting and determining the number of pleats, are given.

The measurements are to be sent to Sister Root in an envelope, “with your cap pattern “.

Anna promises that Lizzie will receive a couple of caps “for next summer”.

This reference to the future might indicate that Lizzie is planning to get married.
