Billie Nydegger was staying in care of Mrs. R. Rubin in Whitehall, Michigan.
Whitehall is a city on the White River in west-central Michigan.
The settlement began as a lumbering enterprise and the city prospered as a strategic location for cutting and floating logs.

It is not clear if Billie was on vacation or, possibly, at camp.
It seems that fishing was a part of the summer experience.
In July of 1920, Billie received a postcard from Auntie Mae.
The postcard was mailed from Milwaukee, Wisconsin – which was connected to Whtehall by steamers that crossed Lake Michigan.
The face of the postcard is a photograph of the Polar Bear Den at the Milwaukee Zoo in Washington Park.
(The Washington Park Zoo, established in 1892, was incorporated into new buildings and habitat areas as the Milwaukee County Zoological Gardens in 1953.)

In this picture, the polar bears appear to have little shade – one hopes that their pond was kept very cold for these creatures in the month of July.
On the reverse, Auntie Mae writes only about fishing.
She asks Billie to “catch a big fish for me and fry him well and brown.”
Auntie Mae concludes her message by offering, “Here is a kiss for you.”
One hopes that Billie enjoyed fishing and other summer activities, and that Auntie Mae remained a kind relative and correspondent for many years.
