Camilla Will Be a Good Girl – Morris Cove, Connecticut (1905)

We have seen several postcard stories related to the towns and resorts on the Long Island Sound of southern Connecticut.

Morris Cove is a rounded bay on the coast near New Haven, CT.

The area became a popular resort in the late 19th century.

In September of 1905, Aunt Nina and Grandmother were in New Haven.

Presumably, the two paid a visit to Morris Cove.

These older travelers wrote to Miss Camilla E. Ritch, who seems to be a child.

Camilla lived in Port Chester, a village in Westchester County, NY – adjacent to the Connecticut town of Greenwich.

Port Chester comprises a portion of the town of Rye, NY.

The face of the postcard is a rather indistinct photograph of Morris Cove.

One can barely discern lines and marks suggesting boats -whether for fishing or for pleasure.

The postcard was published by the Souvenir Post Card Company of New York and Berlin.

Because this was an ‘undivided-back” postcard, the two women had to inscribe their brief message on the face.

They instruct Camilla to “be a good girl”.

One hopes that the young Camilla enjoyed the postcard remembrance, however she might have felt about the instruction.

The postcard was preserved in very good condition throughout Camilla’s life.
