Mr. Harry Mason lived in Hoboken, a city on the Hudson River in northeast New Jersey.
In the early 20th century, Hoboken was home to many manufacturers – including Maxwell House Coffee, Lipton Tea, Hostess Cupcakes, and Wonder Bread.

In September of 1908, Harry received a postcard from his friend, Martha.
Martha mailed the postcard from Hoboken, so it appears as though she lives close to Harry.
The face of the postcard is an artful drawing of a boy and a small dog herding a small flock of sheep.
It appears as though the sheep are outside of the fence, and the boy is attempting to drive them back through an opening caused by a fallen rail of the fence.
The drawing is entitled, “The Young Shepherd”.
The postcard was published by M. T. Sheahan of Boston, a firm that we have met in earlier postcard stories.
The other works that we have seen by this publisher have been mottoes or sayings.
On the reverse, Martha offers, “If you want to go to church Sunday eve, come down early, I will be ready.”
I assume that Martha does not want to make the effort if Harry is not able to escort her as she adds, “Be sure and let me know if you are going before Sunday.”
Martha concludes by writing, “Yours as ever, Martha”.
One hopes that Harry was able and willing to take Martha to church, and that the two enjoyed their excursion together.
