Ruby Baker lived in Winchester, a village and Township in Adams County of southwest Ohio.
(There are several place names of “Winchester” in Ohio, but this village is the only one that had a post office in 1908.)

Additionally, there are several persons named “Ruby Baker born around 1900 in various places in Ohio – none of these persons have lived in or near one of the places named “Winchester”.
Thus, there is some mystery connected to the postcard.
* * * * * *
Sometime around 1908, Ruby was celebrating a birthday.
For the occasion, she received a lovely postcard from Papa.
The postcard was not mailed, and I suspect that Ruby was a child still living at home with Papa.
The face of the postcard shows a young girl with golden hair seated beneath the bough of a fruit tree.
The girl wears a dress and a bonnet; she appears to be seated on a pillow or cushion.
Beside her is a basket of fruit, which may have been filled by the man standing nearby who is plucking fruit from the tree.
Above the man, Papa penciled “Papa”.
Beneath the scene is a printed greeting, “To wish you a Happy Birthday“.
The charming postcard art was published by the International Art Publishing Company of New York and Berlin.
The postcard was printed in Germany.
On the reverse, the name of “Ruby Baker” and “Winchester, Ohio” is written.
There is no written message, only the name, “papa Baker”.
The postcard suffered from foxing and other signs of age -I made some digital repairs to the face.
Nevertheless, the endearing postcard was preserved by Ruby (and others) for more than a century.
The image with Papa’s name on the face is attached below.
One hopes that Ruby enjoyed a wonderful birthday and found happiness and success in the 20th century.
