A Ballerina in Paradise – circa 1902

Dennis Sullivan lived in Paradise, the charming town in eastern Lancaster County, PA.

Sometime around 1902, Dennis was given a postcard greeting; the face featured a beautiful ballerina in pink garb, holding a bouquet of flowers.

The illustration is titled, “The Favorite”; the postcard was copyrighted in 1902 by the publisher, the Ullman Manufacturing Co. of New York.

An inscription on the front (one could not write on the reverse) asks, “How does this strike you?”

The initials “H. S. F.” (?) of Paradise Pa identify the sender.

We would suspect that the giver of the postcard lived near Paradise even if the location was not inscribed – the postcard was not mailed.

The uncanceled one-cent stamp could still be used (theoretically).

It seems that Dennis was pleased with the ballerina as the postcard was preserved in very good condition.
