Miss Hortense Myers lived in Knapp, Wisconsin.
Knapp, a village in west-central Wisconsin, was once part of a flourishing lumber industry.
(Today, Knapp has almost the same population that it did in 1910.)

In April of 1909, Hortense received a postcard from Charley, who addresses her as “Dear Niece”.
The face of the postcard is a night view of Marion, Indiana.
The postcard was published by M. G. Callahan; it was printed in Germany.
Marion, a city in north-central Indiana was a small community with an agricultural industry when it became a city in 1831.
The discovery of natural gas in northern Indiana in the 1880’s led to a local boom in building population.
The face of the postcard shows several square blocks of lighted buildings, with other structures in the distance.
(The gas boom did not endure; by 1940 the city was again a small community – until the building of several industrial plants led to another period of rapid growth.)

Earlier, we shared another postcard story from Marion, Indiana:
On the reverse, Charley reports that Vern had been “pretty bad” as he was “down with pneumonia”.
Fortunately, Vern is “about all right, now”.
One hopes that Hortense enjoyed the postcard, that she was pleased to receive the family news, and that Vern made a full recovery from his illness.
