The Postcard from Wescosville – Anna Dreibelbis in 1910

John Jacob Dreibelbis immigrated from Germany to Pennsylvania in 1732.

His descendants, sometimes with variant spellings of the last name, can be found in many towns and villages throughout Berks County.

In April of 1910 Anna Dreibelbis was living in the household of Elenius Dreibelbis in Kutztown, PA.

(Elenius, who died in Shillington, PA in 1940, had a daughter, Anna, who died in 1977.)

Anna was five years old when she received the birthday postcard from her cousin, Carrie.

Carrie hoped that Anna had received many presents for her birthday.

Carrie’s birthday, we are reminded, is imminent.

The postcard was mailed from Wescosville, a populated place between Trexlertown and Allentown in neighboring Lehigh County.

(Kutztown is about 14 miles from Wescosville.)

Made in Germany, the postcard is illustrated with a bright drawing of flowers and a distant orchard in a rural setting.

The postcard was richly embossed.

One hopes that young Anna and Carrie enjoyed their birthdays in the Spring of 1910.
